This project involved the construction of 2no. in-situ retaining walls within an existing dry dock, this created a new test tank facility within the Neptune Energy Park in Wallsend, Tyne & Wear. Whilst a large proportion of the dock will be subject to infill, a section at the entrance of the dry dock will be left so that it can be filled with water to test bespoke equipment associated with the subsea and offshore engineering industries.
Works on both front and mid dock walls commenced with the dowelling and casting of the shear keys to the dock floor and side walls. Following the installation of the shear keys further concrete pours were then carried out to form the retaining walls with the dry dock, the largest of the pours was 650m3 and was carried out over a 12hr period.
