Southbay carried out repairs to the breakwater at the entrance to the Port of Workington in 2007 / 2008. The works involved replacing rock armour to the main breakwater, forming an access path to the navigation light at the end of the breakwater, repairs to the navigation lamp and carrying out pointing and concrete repairs to a lifeguard tower.

The rock armour used was scoured from old kentledge blocks measuring 1.5mx1.5mx2m, these were placed at strategic locations from the top of the breakwater by a 50t excavator. The access path was formed on top of the breakwater, this was to provide safe access for the maintenance of the navigation light. New stainless steel wire rope stays and anchors were provided to the navigation lamp.

Insitu concrete repairs were carried out to a corner of the lifeguard tower that had broken away and pointing was carried out to the seaward side of the lifeguard tower, access was via a portable boatswains chair and winch.
