In January, we were delighted to welcome students from Benfield School to our Tyne Dock Enterprise Park Quay Wall project within the Port of Tyne. The visit was organised in support of the school’s initiative to encourage more girls to consider careers in the STEM sector, aligning with our commitment to promoting diversity in civil engineering.
The day began at the Port of Tyne Innovation Hub, where students attended a presentation covering the vital role of civil engineering in shaping the North East’s infrastructure. Our team also provided insights into the quay wall project, highlighting key construction processes and the importance of health and safety in our industry.
Following the session, our project management team led a guided site tour, allowing students to see civil engineering in action. From observing the technical aspects of the project to learning about real-world problem solving, the visit provided a valuable glimpse into the exciting opportunities within the industry.
A huge thank you to the Port of Tyne for their involvement and support in showcasing careers in construction. We believe it is vital to show young people that STEM careers are for everyone. We hope this experience has inspired the next generation of engineers!
