Southbay is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Port of Tyne Pier and Lighthouse Repairs, following extensive damage caused by Storm Babet in October 2023.
The project involved the repair and reinstatement of critical maritime infrastructure across both the North and South Piers, including works to the historic lighthouse structures. The storm had caused severe displacement and loss of parapet walls, coping stones, handrailing, and masonry, as well as significant damage to the South Pier Lighthouse dome and electrical systems.
All works were completed within a live marine environment, requiring careful coordination with ongoing port operations and close management of challenging weather and tidal conditions.
The completion of these essential works ensures the long-term protection and functionality of the Port of Tyne’s coastal defences and navigational infrastructure. Southbay would like to thank all those involved for their contribution to the successful delivery of this important project.
