Southbay carried out the installation of the mooring columns and shore frame steelwork for the new floating pontoons at Newcastle Quayside Marina. The marina is being created by NE1 as part of their focus on creating long-term growth and make a major contribution to the ongoing regeneration of the city. By creating the marina, boats will be brought further up the Tyne into the heart of the city with visitors able to take advantage of the restaurants, bars and other attractions on Newcastle’s iconic Quayside with only a short walk into the city centre.
The works involved excavation of the existing footpath and the installation of mass concrete to anchor the cantilevered shore frame too. Mooring columns were also secured to the quayside wall using marine grade resin and bolts, this work was carried out in a tidal zone from a man basket.
Additional ducting was also installed to provide access for electric and water supplies to feed the new pontoons.
