“She has exactly the professionalism and passion for civil engineering and is exactly the type of person the industry needs for the future,” he added.
Theodora says: “I see the demanding nature of the construction industry as a challenge, not a threat. I’ve chosen the right career, and I’m excited to see what coming years hold for me.”
Other award winners this year are Daryl Charlton, 24, of Newcastle, a site engineer (most promising trainee civil engineer), and Chris Harland, 19, of Middlesbrough (apprentice roadworks supervisor).
Stuart Miller, director of CECA (NE), says of the outcome decided by independent judges : “We want to see more young women in the diverse careers that civil engineering offers, and Theodora and Daryl are excellent role models. Chris’s double success too shows how a young person can aspire to university and progress in a job at the same time in our industry.”
